James L. Putnam

James L. Putnam, 67, beloved husband of 29 years and father, of North Port, Florida, formerly of Scanlon, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2018. He was born May 20, 1950 in Bismarck, North Dakota, a son of Noreen Sandwick and the late James Putnam Sr., both of Minnesota.

He was a 1968 graduate of Cloquet High School, and for years, he worked as a sales representative at various companies, most recently at Schaeffer Oil and H&H Industries. Prior to moving to Florida in 2013, he spent many years as an active member of his hometown communities, serving as Mayor of Scanlon for seven years, the president of the Cloquet Eagles Club, and was a deacon of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Scanlon.

He was an avid golfer and lover of all sports - especially the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, grandchildren, family, and his many friends.

Surviving are his loving wife, Kathi Putnam; three sons, Shawn (Kellie) Putnam of Orlando, FL, Christopher (Leah) Putnam of Oakdale, PA, and Chad Putnam of Cloquet; four granddaughters, Natalie Putnam of Cloquet, Taylor Putnam of North Port, FL, and Lily and Violet Putnam of Orlando, FL; Siblings Brad (Myrna) Putnam of Cloquet, Doreen (Mike) Battaglia of Duluth, June Vawter of Duluth, and JoAnn (Ken) Kroll of Delano; mother-in-law Donna Johanson of Port Charlotte, FL; brothers-in-law Jay and Gene Johanson of Port Charlotte, FL and several nieces and nephews.

He leaves behind his two beloved fur babies, Rio and Sammy.

A celebration of life will be held in North Port, FL on Sunday, February 11. An additional service will be held at a later date in Scanlon, Minnesota at Bethel Lutheran Church followed by a celebration of life.
