Joseph R. Chartier

Joseph R. Chartier, age 87 of Cloquet, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born April 21, 1930 and served in the U.S. Navy. Joe worked for the Potlatch Corp. retiring in 1992. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar, wood carving, oil painting, gardening, and was a magician and log-roller in his younger years. Joe enjoyed all sports, especially hockey, volunteering his time driving the Zamboni at the Barn. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Bishop Welsh Council 5132, and the Potlatch Quarter Century Club.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Zephryn and Clara (Imoehl) Chartier; one son, Michael Chartier; and two sisters, Angela Micke, and Sister Inez Chartier. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen; daughter, Joleen (Ray) Podvin; sons, Terry (Diane), Chris (Beth), Gregg, and Scott (Sara) Chartier; ten grandchildren, Lindsay Williams, Katie Hansen, Matthew Christen, Luke Chartier, Melisa Davis, Sara Hoihjelle, Kimberly McCuskey, Jill Chartier, Eric Chartier, and Kira Chartier; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. The visitation will resume Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet.
