Dwayne R. "Duke" Johnson

Dwayne R. "Duke" Johnson, 85 of Cloquet passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017. He was born June 3, 1932 in Cloquet to Lawrence and Violet Johnson. Duke graduated from Cloquet High School in 1951. On August 4, 1956 he married Lowana Millen.

Duke worked for Northwest Paper and later Potlatch for more than 42 years, retiring in 1991. For the next 20 years he and his wife enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Duke was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the DAV, Cloquet VFW, Potlatch Quarter Century Club and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Duke enjoyed building bird houses, bird feeders and shelves. He also enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler and collecting rocks.

Duke was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd Johnson; and sister, Jean Bolme.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lowana; daughter, Tracy (Gary) Hoff of Chaska; sons, Guy of Bloomington and Steve of Cloquet; grandchildren, David (Angela) Hoff, Samie Hoff, Rachael Hoff, Luke Johnson, Lyle Johnson, Mitchell Johnson and Madeline Johnson; great grandchild, Erika Hoff; and sister, Alice Johnson of Cloquet. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Saturday, October 14, 2017 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
