Caroline B. Roe

Caroline B. Roe

Caroline B. Roe, 86, of Cloquet, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday morning, May 14, 2017 in the hospice unit of St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. Caroline was born in Cloquet on July 31, 1930 to Carl and Alice Siam, Sr. While she lived most of her life in Cloquet where she attended Cloquet Public Schools, a few of her early adult years were spent in the Denver, Colorado area and also on the Iron Range. She married Daryle D. Roe, also from Cloquet, and raised their two children, Cheryl and Kerry.

Caroline spent most of her adult life working as a computer operator in the computer department of Northwest Paper Company from which she also retired. She was frequently lauded for her computer, analytical and organizational skills and was encouraged to become a programmer, but Caroline felt those job demands would interfere too much with family life and declined.

Caroline was an attractive, neat, quiet, shy, introverted woman who was very intelligent, kind, generous, hardworking and incredibly independent and strong-willed. Those qualities served her well throughout her life as there wasn't much she couldn't do. Carpentry, Scandinavian sweater knitting, cooking and baking, overhauling snow blowers and lawn mowers were all on the duty roster. She was an avid church goer and lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and donated to many charities.

Unfortunately, Caroline's many skills did not prevent the two great tragedies of her life: the untimely deaths of her beloved husband, Daryle, at age 36 and also the accidental industrial death of her son, Kerry, who was 47. Life became sad and difficult but she carried on like a trooper setting so many good life examples for family and friends. "When life gets tough, the tough get going."

Caroline died on Mother's Day which at first seemed disastrous but we were soon reminded she would now be celebrating Mother's Day for the first time in years/decades with her much loved son, Kerry, husband, Daryle, and mother, Alice. Despair turned to joy and so it goes... Rest in peace. We all love you, Mom, to the moon and back!

Caroline was preceded in death by husband, Daryle; son, Kerry; mother, Alice; father, Carl, Sr; and brothers, Harold, Carl, Jr., and Daniel.

She is survived by daughter, Cheryl Beckrich of Duluth; grandchildren, Sean (Andrea) Beckrich, Tracy Saggese, Dustin Roe, Baylee (Ryan) VanPuymbrouck; great grandchildren, Julian, Ashley, Olivia and Dylan; brother, George Siam of Cloquet; daughter-in-law, Amy Roe of Cloquet; and nieces and nephews, Valerie Reynolds, Roy Siam, Alicia Sechrist and Daniel Siam, Jr.

In remembrance of Caroline, Visitation will be from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service, Friday, May 19, 2017 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th and Doddridge, Cloquet. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's research at Mayo Clinic. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
