Black Bear to observe Native American Heritage Month

Black Bear Casino Resort will observe Native American Heritage Month in November with traditional crafts, free concerts, a display of Native American artifacts and more.

The month-long observance will honor Native American history and educate the broader public about the proud heritage of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

The activities will begin with an opening ceremony and invocation in the Otter Creek Event Center at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1. This event is open to the public.

Black Bear's observance will include three free concert events in the Otter Creek Event Center, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the concerts starting at 7 p.m.

Kalpiulli Ketzacoatlique will perform Nov. 1. A Tribe Called Red will perform Nov. 3. Brule will perform Friday, Nov. 17.

Native American heritage displays will be featured focusing on the tribe's traditional ways. This will include a wigwam display, along with information regarding the traditional building of our displayed canoe.

Native American arts and crafts will be available for purchase every event night from 6-9 p.m. Some of the items for sale will include earrings, throw blankets, traditional jewelry, wild rice, wool blankets and more. All activities will take place near the Otter Creek Event Center. Admission is free.

Black Bear's Native American Heritage Month observance will also include a Native American buffet from 3-9 p.m. Tuesdays. The food dishes will consist of roasted assorted squash and purple sweet potatoes sprinkled with fresh herbs and walnuts; cedar-smoked salmon; fire-roasted chicken and gravy; venison medallions with woodland mushrooms; grilled walleye; roasted goose; roasted duck; and dry-aged bison prime rib.
