Wilderness hire Colvard as assistant coach
The Minnesota Wilderness announce the addition of Riley Colvard as the team's new assistant coach. Colvard will join current assistant coach Michael Benedict and head coach Tim Madsen on the coaching staff. Before completing a four-year playing career at the University of Wisconsin-Stout this spring, Colvard played his junior hockey in the NAHL. A former two-year NAHL player, Colvard played for the Austin Bruins during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons.
"Riley's playing experience in the NAHL, and more importantly, his experience of winning in the NAHL will make him a great asset to the Wilderness," said Madsen. "Riley is a loyal, hard-working individual who will fit in very well with our staff."
While at Wisconsin-Stout, Colvard scouted for the Austin Bruins under head ciacg Chris Tok and assistant coach/director of scouting Jamie Huffman. During his time as both a player and scout, Austin had one of the top winning percentages in the league, and had two NAHL finals appearances.
"I am thankful for the opportunity that ownership, Dave and Tim have given me," said Colvard. "I am honored to be able to work for such a great organization and I am excited to get the season started as we will work towards bringing another Robertson Cup back to Cloquet!"
