69-year-old Esko woman arrested in connection with hit-and-run of cyclist
An Esko woman was arrested this morning in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured a bicyclist Sunday morning.
The 69-year-old woman is being held in the Carlton County Jail on a charge of criminal vehicular operation with substantial bodily injury. The News Tribune typically does not name suspects until they are formally charged in court.
According the Carlton County Sheriff's Office, Michael Howard Norton, 43, of Duluth, was injured when his bicycle was hit by a motor vehicle at the corner of county Highway 61 and Rolling Road near Esko about 11 a.m. The motorist didn't stop after hitting Norton, continuing eastbound on Highway 61.
Norton was taken to St. Luke's hospital in Duluth, according to the sheriff's office. His condition was not immediately available today.
Inattentive driving appears to be a factor in this crash, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (218) 384-4185.
