An unidentified man and a juvenile were walking to a local gas station in Cloquet Aug. 19 when the adult was assaulted by a man with a baseball bat.
Tyrone Anthony Williams, 38, of Cloquet was charged with felony assault in the second degree and in the fifth degree on Aug. 22 in Sixth District Carlton County Court.
According to the criminal complaint, Cloquet Police officers arrived at the scene at 10:22 p.m. Aug. 19. The victim told the officers he and the juvenile were walking to the Holiday gas station when Williams jumped out of a wooded area, and struck him with the bat. When the victim fell to the ground Williams began kicking him.
Cloquet Police Sgt. Hallfrisch noted there was a bump on the victim's head and his knee was red.
The complaint notes that Williams has two prior qualified domestic related convictions within the last three years. He also was convicted of aggravated robbery in the first degree in Hennepin County April 1999.
Williams pleaded not guilty in Carlton County Court Sept. 11.
A settlement conference is set for Oct. 9. If that fails, a jury trial is set for Oct. 16 at the Carlton County Courthouse in Carlton.
