Barnum home damaged by fire
A home near Barnum Elementary School was “significantly damaged by fire” early Tuesday, the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies and the Barnum Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting heavy smoke coming from a home at 3816 North Street in Barnum just after 3 a.m.
Authorities found smoke throughout the home and fire in the basement. The homeowner was not home and nobody else was inside the residence, the news release said.
The cause of the fire was unknown, but did not appear to be suspicious, said the news release.
The Moose Lake and Mahtowa fire departments were called in to assist in putting out the fire. Mercy Hospital Ambulance, the Moose Lake Police Department and Minnesota Power were also called to the scene. The home is located across the street from the school.
