No foul play suspected in Cloquet hunter's death

A Cloquet man who was deer hunting was found dead of a gunshot wound Monday morning, Nov. 7.

According to a press release from Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake, dispatch received a call at 10:18 a.m. reporting a 73-year-old Cloquet man had been found deceased in his deer stand in Red Clover Township, Carlton County, from a gunshot wound. The Sheriff's office identified the man as Leland "Frenchy" Gene Carlson on Wednesday, and noted that no foul play was suspected in Carlson's death.

According to his obituary, services for Carlson will be Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Queen of Peace Catholic Church followed by a luncheon in the church social hall. A full obituary will be published in next week's Pine Journal.

Cromwell Fire/Ambulance, Carlton County deputies and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officers responded to the scene.
