Alcohol believed to be a factor in Friday motorcycle crash

At 10:47 a.m. Friday, June 17, the Carlton County 911 dispatch received a call of a motorcycle accident at the intersection of County Road 10 and Sand Lake Road in Moose Lake Township.

According to a press release from the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, Matthew David Carlson, 24, of Sturgeon Lake, Minn. was traveling southbound on County Road 10 when the 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was driving left the road at the curve where County Road 10 intersects Sand Lake Road.

Carlson was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, in Moose Lake, and later airlifted to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. His condition at the time of the crash was critical. His current condition is not known. Speed and alcohol are believed to be a factor. He was not wearing a helmet.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Moose Lake Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Mercy Ambulance, and Moose Lake Fire Department.
