Home, Business and Sports Show a welcome relief from winter

Just in time to cure the worst case of cabin fever in over a decade, along comes the Cloquet Area Home, Business and Sports Show.

The annual event, sponsored by the Cloquet Area Chamber of Commerce, is set for this Friday and Saturday, March 28-29. It will be held for the third year in a row at the Otter Creek Event Center of the Black Bear Casino Resort in Carlton. Hours will be 1-8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Parking and admission to the event are free, and more than 100 booths will be on hand to visit, featuring area businesses, craft vendors and family entertainment.

Forty crafters will feature their wares at booths in the hallway surrounding the event center, featuring everything from beauty products, home décor, jewelry, handbags, homemade soaps, personalized candles, Lake Superior stone products and Up North arrangements to sandblasted stone, glass, music, baked goods, canned honey, maple syrup, recycled metal art and beeswax products.

Entertainment will be practically non-stop over both days, beginning with the Shooting Stars Performance Team at 1:45 p.m. Friday, followed by the Lake Superior Zoomobile at 3 p.m., pictures with the Easter Bunny beginning at 4 p.m., the Amazing Charles Magic Show at 5:30 p.m., pictures with the Easter Bunny at 7 p.m. and Balloon Animals with the Amazing Charles from 5-8 p.m.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, the CLIMB Theater will present “Cave of the Fantastigators,” sponsored by WLSSD. The Theater will also present the mini-play “Anansi the Spider” at 11 a.m., “Take Care of the Environment” at 1 p.m., and the mini-play “Stubby the Elephant” at 2 p.m.

Also on Saturday, parents can get photos of their kids with the Easter Bunny at noon and 4 p.m., and the Lake Superior Zoo will once again feature its Zoomobile presentation at 3 p.m.

Food will be available at restaurants throughout the Black Bear Casino Resort, and a hot dog stand will be located inside the Event Center as well.

Parking will be available in the ramp immediately adjacent to the entrance to the Event Center, or in any of the parking lots outside the casino entrances.

According to the Chamber’s Alyson Leno, the Home, Business and Sports Show typically attracts some 3,000 people each year. For more information, contact the Chamber at 218-879-1551 or
