Our sympathy to the family of JoAnn Anderson Simpson, 80, of Lynden, Wash., who died Friday, March 14, 2014, in a care facility. A memorial service will be held later this summer in Minnesota. Cards may be sent to her husband: Pastor William (Bill) Simpson, 301 Homestead Blvd., Apt. 9, Lynden, WA 98264.

Many area folks attended the memorial service for Matt Benson, 66, in Aurora. He died March 5, 2014, and will be dearly missed by his family and many, many friends.  

March is Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign.This is the largest grassroots funds and food drive in the state providing money and food to the 300 food shelves statewide. Support your local food shelf, be it monetarily or by donating non-perishable food items at this time of year.  Thanks from Dianne Knoben, executive director, Tri-Community Food Shelf, 218-426-4067.

Supporting our community is important to the students and staff of Cromwell-Wright. It is time to give generously to our local food drive to help our friends and neighbors in need. Donations of food or cash may be made at the school through the end of the month.

The Evergreen P.A.C. ATV Club is again sponsoring DNR-approved youth safety training. Classes scheduled for this year are: May 3 at the Barnum Fire Hall, May 17 at the Palisade Fire Hall, and May 31 at the Tamarack Sno-Flyers Building. If you can’t make it to the class you have signed up for, you can come to one of the other classes scheduled. Students must be 11 years old by date of class and must complete Minnesota DNR ATV Safety Training CD prior to class. Contact Gale Bradford at 218-644-3738 to sign up for classes.

This year’s Winter Activities Banquet for all basketball players and One Act team members will be held Tuesday, March 18, at 6 p.m. The program will start with the awards, and refreshments will be served afterwards. Please bring some type of cookie/bar/cake to share for a fellowship time after the awards ceremony. Beverages, plates, napkins and tableware will be provided.

Kindergarten Roundup is coming soon. If you have a child who will be 5 on or before Sept. 1, it’s time to come to Kindergarten Roundup! It will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 8:30-10 a.m. Information has been sent home. If you or someone you know did not receive the packet, contact the school to make sure your family is added to the roundup list by calling 218-644-3737.

Reminder for all high school seniors to get their applications done and turned in for Cromwell-Wright Dollars for Scholars. The deadline is April 11. Any questions contact Joyce Brekke or Kay Smith at 218-591-5860.

Congratulations to Olivia Warpula for making semifinals at the Northern Lights District Tournament in St. Cloud! She was in the top 10 with 37 humorous competitors and was the first Cromwell student to make semifinals in our school history at the NFL. Vanessa Dickey took 27th out of 63 dramas, and Lucas Johnson performed well, too. The speech team continues to look for donations of old cell phones and ink cartridges. Drop them off at the library!

Congratulations! The following artists and artworks will advance to the Region 7A MSHSL Visual Arts Festival on Wednesday, April 9:  Drawing — Madelyn Olson and Melanie Thomas; Painting — Haley Richards;  Sculpture — Andrea Gonzales, Jake Krezowski and Melanie Thomas; Media Arts — Brittany Fisher and Cloe Forland; Mixed Media — Brittany Fisher; and Graphic Design — Daniel Denton, Kendall Houck, Valerie Talley and Olivia Warpula.

School will be in session on Monday, March 24, to make up one of the missed weather days. It was previously a teacher in-service day. There will be future Board action on other missed school days at the regular school board meeting on March 19, at 6 p.m.

The next Senior Dance at the Pavilion in Cromwell will be on March 27 from 1-4 p.m.
