Carlton fire and ambulance get ‘buddy bears’

Body:

The North East Chapter of Minnesota ABATE (American Bikers for Awareness Training and Education) attended the monthly business meeting of Carlton Fire and Ambulance in Carlton Sept. 29 and donated 10 Buddy Bears to the first responders. The event was well attended and much appreciated by the fire and ambulance crews who were present.

Buddy Bears, or trauma bears as the crews call them, are small stuffed toys that are given to traumatized children and can help them to relax and open up to first responders who have been otherwise unable to get them to communicate.

The ABATE Buddy Bear program has been in constant operation for almost 20 years and will continue to be an important part of their local community support efforts.
