3 sopranos to perform in Carlton

Three sopranos who have been involved in Lyric Opera of the North productions will perform an outdoor concert at a historic house in Carlton.

"Red, White & Loon: A Three Sopranos Event" is at 7 p.m. today at the Scott House in Carlton. Tickets are $15 at the door. If it rains, the event will be held on Friday.

Rachel Inselman, an associate professor of voice at the University of Minnesota Duluth, will sing "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" by Samuel Barber. Vicki Fingalson, who teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, will sing a set of American art songs by Jake Heggie and Dominick Argento. Sarah Lawrance, who was Yum-Yum in LOON's recent production of "The Mikado" and who is co- artistic director of the opera company, will sing "The Shepherd on the Rock" by Franz Schubert with Theodore Schoen, who teaches at UMD, on clarinet.

Alex Sandor, who teaches piano at UWS and has been a soloist with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, will play his specialty: ragtime music.

  • Nathan Herfindahl and Marcus McConico will showcase pieces by Stephen Foster, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Aaron Copland and Jerome Kern during "Songs from the Heart," a concert at 7 p.m. Friday at William Kelley High School's auditorium in Silver Bay. Tickets are $10 at the door.

    Herfindahl is a baritone who was part of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist program with the Washington National Opera. He graduated from William Kelley High School.

    McConico is a tenor and an adjunct voice teacher at UMD. He did the unprecedented during the Minnesota Ballet's Celebrity Dance Challenge this past winter, singing as he performed the choreography.

    The concert features Inselman on piano.
