Pauline Winifred Johnson, 91, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013. She was born May 9, 1922, in Sloan, Iowa, to Harry and Julie (Dahl) Goodwin. Pauline was united in marriage to Randolph Johnson on Jan. 4, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Zioneers; and was a former member of the Cloquet Country Club, Order of Eastern Star, PTA, and the Friday Club. Pauline grew up on a farm and loved to work, and was an excellent cook.
Robert Dale Nordskog, 81, of Cohasset, Minn., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He was born Dec. 14, 1931, and lived in Two Harbors, Minn., until 1939 when he moved to Grand Rapids, Minn., with his family. He graduated from Grand Rapids Senior High School in 1949. Bob graduated from Itasca Junior College and went to the National Junior College Tournament in Kansas where he was named to the All Star Tournament Basketball Team. He loved sports and was an avid golfer and retired from volleyball at the age of 70. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and wintering in Vero Beach, Fla. Bob was in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 with an honorable discharge. He spent most of his life in Grand Rapids and loved the community. He married the love of his life, Patricia Swenson Halvorson, on Aug. 13, 1994. Bob owned Nord (Napa) Auto Parts for 58 years and retired on Oct. 1, 2013. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.
Due to the likelihood of sub-zero evening temperatures and a substantial volume of participant cancellations, the Santa's Home for the Holidays parade in Cloquet on Saturday, December 7, 2013, has been cancelled. All other holiday weekend events in Cloquet are expected to continue as planned.

The school district called off all after-school practices Tuesday. It was an incongruous policy act for a ski team; however, it didn’t seem to stop the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton cross country ski team from enjoying an unofficial gathering at the Pine Valley chalet and ski trails.
