Whatever the expected economic impact of this week’s Hells Angels visit to Carlton County may have been, businesses in the vicinity of the headquarters at the Lost Isle reported varied reactions as of Wednesday.
A narrow driveway leading to the Lost Isle’s parking lot was a gap in the fortress of semitrailers, cargo containers and RV trailers blocking three sides of the Carlton restaurant-bar Tuesday night from public view.

Working from the premise that a strong show of law enforcement deters crime, a small army of squad cars from multiple agencies has hit the streets in Carlton County as the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club USA Run gets underway this week.
Despite opposition from police, a West Duluth bar owner on Monday was granted a permit to hold a drinking party that will overflow from his bar into the parking lot on the same weekend that Hells Angels bikers are expected to descend on the region.

The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club will host their 2009 USA Ride in Carlton County this summer, Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake confirmed last Friday. Members of the Sheriff’s Office and Cloquet Police spoke with a Hells Angels member of the Minnesota Chapter recently.
