Author and former Duluth News Tribune reporter Laurie Hertzel will read from and sign copies of her new book “News to Me: Adventures of an Accidental Journalist” at the Cloquet Public Library at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7. Hertzel was recently awarded the People’s Choice Award from the Minnesota Book Awards for 2011.

Jamie Ford, author of New York Times bestseller “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet,” will make a guest appearance at the Cloquet Public Library at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April14. Ford’s appearance is part of the areawide One Book, One Community program for 2011, which has selected his book as this year’s featured topic.

The nationwide reading celebration “Read Across America” will begin at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the Cloquet Public Library. Children of all ages can join the fun by reading from a favorite book or one from the library. Everyone who reads aloud will receive a free book.

Review: Alan Page story is a fascinating read 
In June of 1979, Alan Page stepped across the finish line at Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth and became the first NFL player to finish a marathon – anywhere – and he added yet another record to a long list of athletic accomplishments. Page had a remarkable football career, but perhaps his most important accomplishment came long after his football days were over. In 1992, Page was elected to the Minnesota Supreme Court.
