NEWS TRIBUNE INVESTIGATION: Carlton County officials were made aware of allegations that a county transfer station employee was embezzling significant amounts of cash more than two years before she was charged, according to court records obtained by the News Tribune.
A Cloquet man accused of attempted second-degree murder for allegedly stabbing a 17-year-old girl in the heart was involved in the 2003 Duluth murder of 5-year-old Marcus Johnson and in the repeated stabbing of a Cass Lake, Minn., man in 2009.
Laurie Snaza said her worst fears arrived at her Floodwood home Thursday night when police informed her that the body of her missing daughter had likely been found on a rural road outside of Cloquet earlier Thursday.
The 26-year-old Cloquet woman charged Wednesday in connection with a crash that killed two Carlton County Highway Department workers was on her way back from a regular visit to a methadone clinic in Brainerd, authorities said.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office is holding a community notification meeting next week regarding a Level 3 predatory offender who is moving to the South Riverside Road in Moose Lake Township on Oct. 5.
The Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force arrested 13 alleged heroin dealers among 23 drug arrests Wednesday night and has targeted nine more people for arrest, Duluth police Lt. Steve Stracek said Thursday.
