I suddenly saw something whiz past out the corner of my eye. I wheeled in that direction and much to my surprise, I spotted a butterfly. A butterfly – only one day after the snow had fallen so thickly we could hardly navigate!
There was simply nothing that could have happened to make their wedding weekend anything less than the beautiful celebration it was. After all, if life were without its little dramas, the things that really count wouldn’t be nearly as meaningful.
The little girl gingerly held out her index finger, the tip of which raged rosy red.
“Grandma Wendy, I’ve had a splinter in my finger for FIVE DAYS!” she announced (somehow 7-year-olds always seem to speak in capital letters).
We awoke to the sound of doves cooing conversationally outside our window. The soft “whup, whup, whup” of the ceiling fan stirred the thin percale sheet that lay over us. And as I slid out of bed and into my sandals, I could already sense the heat of the day.
By evening, we were stuck in the driveway....
It was a huge relief when the digital video recorder (DVR) came along. No more bulky cassette tapes, no more dashing madly around at the last minute trying to find a blank tape, no more recording disasters.
I’ve always considered myself something of a liberated woman. After all, I grew up in the Sixties and Seventies, during the days of the women’s lib movement, Gloria Steinem and bra burning (don’t worry, Mom – I’m not that liberated!).
