Three of the four Cloquet-Esko-Carlton entrants in the Section 7AA individual tennis tournament won their first-round matches last Thursday in Duluth, but all team members were eliminated in second-round play.
On Monday, the ’Jacks defeated Hibbing-Chisholm 5-2 in the Section 7AA first round — the second win of the season over the Bluejackets after not defeating that school for at least 15 years prior to this season — but on Tuesday, CEC fell 7-0 to perennial power Duluth East to see its team season come to an end.
On Tuesday, the day before classes began, the ’Jacks lost 5-2 at home to Hermantown to fall to 4-5 on the season, but Coach Steve Rickstrom was thrilled with the team’s first victory over Hibbing in at least 15 years, a very satisfying 4-3 road win last Tuesday, Aug. 27.
The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton tennis team is in high gear after another busy week, with weather at last cooperating and allowing matches to be played.
