Allan "Corky" C. Anderson, 68, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, Minn. He was born March 16, 1944, in Cloquet to Arthur and Edna (Randa) Anderson. Corky worked as an operating engineer with heavy equipment most of his life, and he loved car racing.

The summer season may have been a wash for Jay Cooke State Park thanks to massive flood damage, but officials are hoping to salvage part of the fall and winter seasons at the popular Carlton County park. If all goes as planned, visitors should be able to drive into Jay Cooke State Park from Carlton by the end of October.

A trio of Minnesota residents experienced a close call last week while vacationing in Canada. Cloquet resident Art Martin was at the controls of a Cessna 180 float plane when it crashed shortly after takeoff in a wooded area near Trout Lake outside of Kenora, Ontario, last Wednesday.
