Timothy Gerald Couture
Timothy "Tim" Gerald Couture, 53, of Cloquet, Minn., passed Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn., surrounded by his family. He was born June 1, 1959, in Duluth to Gerald and Phyllis (Carino) Couture and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1977. Tim was a loving father and avid fisherman and hunter. He was looking forward to an upcoming pheasant trip to South Dakota. Tim loved playing hockey for over 50 years, was a great sports fan, and also skied in two Birkebeiner ski races. He was a proud member of the Thunderbird Motorcycle Club and was also a member of Queen of Peace Parish. Tim was an owner of PAW Communications and had worked as a painter/contractor for Couture Brothers, and also for Minorca Mine.

Beatrice E. Johnson, 87, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet. She was born April 6, 1925, in Scanlon, Minn., to Ernest and Lillian (Schilling) Ehrman and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1943. Doris M. Hargan, 79, of Mounds, Ill., peacefully left this earth on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012. She was born June 22, 1933, the daughter of Eino Esaeas and Helmi Wilhelmina (Wiita) Ikola at home on the family's small dairy farm, located in a Finnish community in rural Esko, Minn. She and Harold David Hargan were married July 8, 1955, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mound City, Ill. Doris was a graduate of Esko High School in Thomson Township, where she was a cheerleader for the "Esko Eskomos." She continued her education in Duluth, Minn., and then began her 44-year career as an X-ray technician in 1953 at St. Mary's hospital in Cairo, Ill., and thereafter served in a variety of roles at the Community Health Clinic in Cairo, Ill. She retired in 2011, having dedicated 58 years in service to others.

Cloquet police are investigating what is believed to be a gang-related shooting on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation in which the victim was shot in the foot, but investigators say he isn’t providing much information because he fears for his life.

Dennis L. House
Dennis L. House, 72, of Baxter, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Cloquet, Minn., the son of Lester and Theresa (Gray) House. After high school, Denny married Karel Franklin on Dec. 6, 1958. He started working for Northwest Paper Company in Cloquet before being transferred to Potlatch in Brainerd in 1963 as a coater supervisor and later, maintenance coordinator. In 1996, Denny retired, but he stayed busy. He enjoyed woodworking, maintaining his yard, and going camping with friends. He was an avid Nascar fan. He volunteered for the Elks and was also a trustee. He did everything but play golf. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa and friend to everyone who entered his life. We've always been amazed by his courage, strength and determination but never so much as in the past few months during his illness. He led by example and was admired by all.

Kenneth Woodrow Keuhn
Kenneth Woodrow Keuhn, 95, of Carlton, Minn., formerly of Ely, Minn., passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born Nov. 2, 1916, to Charles W. and Bessie (Ellsworth) Keuhn in Mercer County, Mo. He attended grade school in Missouri, North Dakota and Minnesota. In the summer of 1935 and again in the winter of 1936-1937 Ken was enlisted with the Civilian Conservation Corps working in Minnesota and the state of Washington. While working on his sister's farm near Thief River Falls he met the girl he was looking for - Ruth Myhrer - and married her on Nov. 25, 1939. They moved to Ely in 1951 where he worked in logging and mine construction. He retired from DNR Fisheries in 1978 after 16 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, hobby farming and wood crafts in retirement. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Ely, Ely Senior Citizens and Ely Garden Club.
