Catherine B. Bauer, 95, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. She was born Oct. 9, 1917, in Eden, S.D., to Michael and Elizabeth (Deutsch) Bauer. Catherine worked for Potlatch Corporation and was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club and Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Constance V. Mattson
Constance "Connie" V. Mattson, 91, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. She was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Cloquet and had worked as a telephone operator and also at Diamond Match Mill. Connie was very active with the DFL Party in Cloquet and helped with the Labor Day Dinner at the Labor Temple. She was an active member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary, Moose Club Auxiliary and the Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post Auxiliary. Connie also enjoyed crafts, especially knitting and crocheting.

Kim Johnson
Kim M. (Bassett) Johnson, 51, of Duluth, Minn., after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Solvay Hospice House with her family beside her. She was born April 4, 1961, in Cloquet, Minn., to Jack and Bergie Bassett. Kim was a 1979 Cloquet High School graduate and was currently enrolled in Lake Superior College pursuing a degree in business administration. She had previously worked for Fond du Lac Health Services and Education Division and for the past 18 years for Wells Fargo Bank. Kim was an avid reader, active outdoors woman and enjoyed genealogy. She happily married Jeff Johnson on June 9, 2012. Kim's life centered on her children, grandchildren and extended family.

Willard M. Schmitz
Willard M. Schmitz, 82, of Cloquet, Minn., formerly of Carlton, Minn., and Bloomer, Wis., passed away peacefully with his family and dog Fritz by his side on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. Willard was born on June 6, 1930, to Joseph and Laura (Casey) Schmitz in Pierre, S.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after school and served his country honorably for several years. He was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Munroe in Santa Barbara, Calif. Willard was a truck driver and farmer all of his life. A good, giving man, Willard was there for everyone. He enjoyed cooking everything and feeding everyone. Willard enjoyed fishing and loved animals, especially his dogs. He always had a million projects and irons in the fire. “We have to do it today, because tomorrow never comes.”

Harold Francis Bassett
Harold "Harry" Bassett, 63, of Elk River, Minn., passed into eternal life, with our Lord and Savior on Feb. 22, 2013, at home with his loving family at his side. Harry had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March of 2011, and fought a valiant battle to the very end. Harry was born on June 20, 1949, to Arnold and Carolyn Bassett in Cloquet, Minn., and was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Cloquet High School, and very proudly with the "Class of 1967."

James Robert Wiggins
James Robert Wiggins, 55, of Superior, Wis., passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. He was born Nov. 4, 1957, in Duluth, Minn., to John W. and Mary P. (Pflum) Wiggins and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1976. Jim had been a car salesman for Krenzen's and North Country Auto Exchange and was currently working in the Wal-Mart Deli in Cloquet, Minn. He was an avid collector of "treasures" from old memorabilia to coins and other unique odds and ends. Jim loved reading unusual books about a wide variety of things. Every Friday you could find him out at garage sales. He was forever adding to his collections. Jim was a very engaging man and everyone enjoyed talking to him. He was fun spirited, had a million-watt smile, and a boisterous laugh.
