Herbert Michael LeBlanc
Herbert M. LeBlanc, 62, of Wrenshall, Minn., and formerly of Proctor, Minn., passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, at Bayshore Health Care in Duluth, Minn., with his loving family by his side. He was born Aug. 4, 1949, in Duluth to Herbert and Clara (Halkins) LeBlanc and graduated from Proctor High School in 1967. Herb was united in marriage to Sandra Wise on July 17, 2009. He served in the United States Navy from 1967-1971; the Minnesota Army National Guards from 1973-1992; and the United States Army from 1990-1991 and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Gulf War Service Medal. Herb worked for Zalk Josephs in Duluth from 1972-1979 and also the DM&IR Railroad from 1979-2001. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Life Member of the Disabled American Vets and the Northland Vietnam Veterans. Herb also loved cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing, golfing, XC skiing, ski jumping, downhill skiing, riding his Harleys, time in the woods on his bench, and especially spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends.

Wallace Carl Beck
Wallace Carl Beck, 84, of Cloquet, Minn., died Monday, June 11, 2012, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake, Minn. The son of Alfred and Frances Beck, Wallace was born on March 11,1928, in Spruce Grove Township, Becker County, Minn. On March 21, 1952, he married Dorothy Erickson in Menahga, Minn., and together they moved to Cloquet in 1953. Wally and Dorothy were an inseparable pair, working together in their beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, going for long walks, or just being together at home. They were married for 51 years.

Lawrence LeRoy Finifrock
Lawrence LeRoy Finifrock, 97, of Barnum, Minn., died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. He was born July 13, 1914, in Yakima Valley, Wash., to Albert and Mary Finifrock. The family homesteaded in Montana from 1917 until 1920. They moved to New Underwood, S.D., living there until 1933. Lawrence married Marion Hill on March 27, 1938, in Barnum. He dairy farmed until 1967. Lawrence also worked for the Soo Line Railroad, Diamond Match and the Moose Lake State Hospital before retiring in 1980. After retirement he lived on Crystal Lake in Mahtowa, Minn., before moving to Chub Lake in 1986.

Paul Fredrick Erickson, 47, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at his home in Canyon, Minn. Paul was born Sept. 7, 1964, in Wausau, Wis., and graduated from Morgan Park High School in Duluth, Minn., in 1982. Paul enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. He was a devoted father and loving son who spent as much time with his family as possible. Paul started his own flooring business in 1988 and although he would have liked to take a sick day or a vacation day every once in a while, he never did.

Donald Edward Puotinen, 86, of Esko, Minn., died Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet, Minn. Born in 1926 in Thomson Township, Don was the son of Edward and Lempi Puotinen. He served in the United States Army during World War II and fought in Europe during the end of the war from March 1945 to July 1946. Don was a lift operator at Potlatch and retired after 33 years of employment. When his sons were young, Don was very active in Boy Scouts. He had also been an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko and was a member of American Legion Post 262 in Cloquet for 58 years.

Donald (Donnie)William Melvin Keinanen, 69, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 20, 2012. He was born Feb. 20, 1943, to William and Aili (Oja) Keinanen in Hancock, Mich., and in his early childhood the family moved to Moose Lake, Minn., where he was raised on the family farm.

Vernon James Schlichting, 80, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away very peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Community Memorial Hospital, Cloquet. He was born on Sept. 29, 1931, in Royalton, Minn., and later moved with his family to Duluth, Minn. Vern was a young entrepreneur, selling Liberty magazines with his brother Al at the young age of 9-10. He then ran a successful shoe shine stand near the Greyhound Bus Depot for several years. Vern started his career with U.S. Steel at the age of 15. He worked as a crane operator, instrument repairman and foreman prior to his retirement at the age of 45. After retirement, he and his brother Al worked together repairing appliances. He also served in the United States Army. Vern loved the Minnesota Vikings and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He treasured his time spent at the hunting shack with his father, brother and nephews. His greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He loved his daughter, step-children, sons-in-law and grandchildren unconditionally and wholeheartedly. His family meant the world to him.

Stanley George Janczak, 91, of Esko, Minn., passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Solvay Hospice House. Stanley was born April 12, 1921, in Duluth, Minn., the son of Joseph and Sophie (Sojka) Janczak. He grew up in Duluth and attended Denfeld High School. He entered the United States Army Air Corp on Aug. 6, 1942, and served in the Hawaiian and Tongareva/Penrhyn Islands, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 19, 1945. He married Betty L. St. George. Stanley was employed at Conwed for 22 years.

She was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Drayton, N.D., to William and Nannie (Bjerk) Johnson. Faye worked as a beautician and also as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of the Carl Anderson American Legion Auxiliary, the Loyal Order of Moose Auxiliary, and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church. Faye enjoyed playing cribbage, smear, and bingo.

Ellen K. Parks, 91, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. She was born April 10, 1921, in Oulu, Finland, to Eino and Selma (Koistenen) Korkala and was a Cloquet resident since 1939. Ellen was a longtime member of the Cloquet Presbyterian Church, and also the Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979 Auxiliary. She loved gardening, snowmobiling, going to the cabin at Lake Saganaga, "Big Sag," and teaching ceramics in her home.
