As a lifelong Democrat and union supporter, I was excited eight years ago as I drove to Duluth for my first union meeting. I thought “A child care union, how cool!” Today I question the integrity of my Democratic Party. I was taught that Republicans were only interested in corporate greed and didn’t care about those of us in the middle class, yet that is what I am and what I’m hearing from my DFL — only in this case substitute the word “union” for “corporation.”

Married 65 years, Northland couple die just hours apart
Their song was “It Had to be You,” and it was aptly symbolic for the seven decades Mary Lou Pouti and Maynard Peterson spent together. They were certain of their love through 65 years of marriage. This week, they were together through death — Maynard passed away Friday morning just hours after his wife.

Dennis Jacob Randelin, 69, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. He was born Oct. 19, 1943, in Duluth, Minn., to Kenneth and Muriel (Gault) Randelin. He moved to Cloquet in 1946 and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1961.
