Last June’s flooding in Carlton County has elicited a hefty price tag. In a report to the Carlton County Board last Tuesday, Zoning and Environmental Services Director Heather Cunningham told commissioners the cost of the flood debris removal has reached a total of $540,196.15.

Crowded court calendar includes Cloquet woman accused of vehicular homicide
Vanessa Rae Brigan, 26, of Cloquet appeared in Carlton County Court on Wednesday for felony charges of criminal vehicular homicide. Also appearing Wednesday were Cody Logan Fohrenkam, accused of arson, and Kristine Marie Lyons, on charges of DWI. Forrest Michael St. John, 20, also appeared on two charges.

Two arrested after gun fired in dispute Sunday
On Sunday, Nov. 11 at approximately 11:30 PM police responded to the area of Blue Spruce Drive in the City of Cloquet on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation, where witnesses stated that two individuals had gotten into an argument at a residence when one of the individuals was threatened with a gun. It was reported that shots were fired, but no one was injured.

Sandra Lee Rudeck
Sandra Lee Rudeck, 63, of Moose Lake, Minn., passed away and rejoined her Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012. She was born in Cloquet, Minn., on Oct. 9, 1949, the oldest of four children. She grew up with her three siblings, John (Debbie) of Cloquet, Paul (Jodi) of Barnum, Minn., and Suzie (Mike) of Superior, Wis., on Big Lake west of Cloquet. Sandie brought great joy to all those she knew. An ordained minister in Spiritual Science Foundation, she presided over many weddings and funerals. Strong in her faith, Sandie was eternally optimistic and always willing to help others. A daughter, sister, wife, mother, minister, friend and girlfriend, Sandie loved interacting with others. She lived in Cloquet, Colorado Springs, Colo., Esko, Minn., Island Lake in Duluth, Minn., and most recently Moose Lake, Minn., during her life. She was a waitress, skilled crocheter, and she shared a passion for the holidays, in particular Christmas. Among her proudest moments was graduating from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College as an over-50 college student and being ordained a minister in Montreal, Canada.
