Over the past decade, the way medical professionals, coaches, parents and players regard “getting your bell rung” during a sporting event has changed dramatically. Schools are working with healthcare professionals to come up with good treatment plans, including baseline testing for athletes in sports where they are more likely to get concussions.

Michael L. Lizotte
Michael L. Lizotte, 45, of Lindstrom, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012. He was born May 13, 1967, graduated from Cloquet High School (1986) and St. Cloud State University and obtained his Masters of Education from the University of Minnesota. Mike was currently a teacher at North Branch School District and a former teacher at Pine City School District. He coached hockey, tennis and baseball, and worked with youth at Lakes Free Church, was an FCA Camp coach and led Bible study and prayer time at North Branch School. Mike enjoyed tennis, hockey, golf, boating, fishing and spending time with Lisa, the boys and all their friends.

Cloquet City Councilors denied a request from Shamrock Industrial landfill to extend hours of operation – currently 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays except during emergencies and landfill cell construction – to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Neighbors were relieved.

It seemed almost like business as usual at the Esko School Board meeting Tuesday night. Only a handful of guests were in the audience, and rhetoric was kept to a minimum. Last week, Esko community members started dismantling the hocky shelter, located at 62 Canosia Road in Esko. The shelter suffered significant damage from flood waters in June, leaving behind mold and other problems would likely translate into a building that would have to be condemned if left alone. Donations in support of the shelter can be sent to the Esko Youth Hockey Association, Republic Bank, 3 Thomson Road, Esko, MN 55733.
