Cloquet Police: Shooting victim fears for his life, won't talk
Cloquet police are investigating what is believed to be a gang-related shooting on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation in which the victim was shot in the foot, but investigators say he isn’t providing much information because he fears for his life.

Ruth Johanna Ezell
Ruth J. Ezell, 91, of Carlton, Minn., passed away on Tuesday morning, Aug. 21, 2012, at Essentia Health Care in Duluth, Minn., surrounded by her loving family. She was born Ruth Johanna Lundquist to Adolph and Alma (Mannisto) Lundquist on June 24, 1921, in Duluth. She was raised in Duluth and later moved to New York Mills, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1939. Ruth went attended Hibbing Junior College for two years before going on to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Her education was interrupted by the attack on Pearl Harbor and declaration of World War II. She enlisted in the United States Army where she served as Chief Radio Operator. Ruth later continued her education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She was employed as a laboratory technician by St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth and later as an educator at both the Moose Lake School District and Carlton School District from where she retired in 1984.

Harold Edward Wilkins
Harold E. Wilkins, 89, of Wrenshall, Minn., passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. He was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Shevlin, Minn., to John and Agnes Wilkins. Harold served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army during World War II. He moved to the Wrenshall area in 1964 and worked as a lineman for numerous contractors and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Harold also worked as a farmer and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wrenshall.

William "Bill" Anderson, 78, of Scottsville, Ken., passed away at 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at his residence. The Cloquet, Minn., native was a former employee of Potlatch Corporation, former security guard for General Electric and A.O. Smith. Bill was a United States Air Force veteran.

Kenneth Woodrow Keuhn
Kenneth Woodrow Keuhn, 95, of Carlton, Minn., formerly of Ely, Minn., passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born Nov. 2, 1916, to Charles W. and Bessie (Ellsworth) Keuhn in Mercer County, Mo. He attended grade school in Missouri, North Dakota and Minnesota. In the summer of 1935 and again in the winter of 1936-1937 Ken was enlisted with the Civilian Conservation Corps working in Minnesota and the state of Washington. While working on his sister's farm near Thief River Falls he met the girl he was looking for - Ruth Myhrer - and married her on Nov. 25, 1939. They moved to Ely in 1951 where he worked in logging and mine construction. He retired from DNR Fisheries in 1978 after 16 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, hobby farming and wood crafts in retirement. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Ely, Ely Senior Citizens and Ely Garden Club.

Lyndon Lloyd Schendel, 91, Presbyterian minister, caring dad and avid outdoorsman, died at his residence at Waverly Gardens Presbyterian Home in North Oaks, Minn., on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Lyndon was born in Luverne, Minn., the fifth child of the Rev. Frederick William Schendel and Lydia Lavina Bathke Schendel. He graduated from North Central College and the Methodist Seminary in Naperville, Ill. Lyndon continued his studies in educational psychology and statistics at St. Thomas College in Minnesota. He was a Kiwanis and Rotary member and for many years served as a big brother to disadvantaged youth in his community. Reverend Schendel was the minister of Presbyterian churches in Austin, White Bear Lake and Cloquet, Minn., and Bay City, Mich. His ministry focused on youth programs. Each year he took the church youth groups on camping trips which were life-changing experiences for many of these young people.
