Guest Commentary
As a lifelong Democrat and union supporter, I was excited eight years ago as I drove to Duluth for my first union meeting. I thought “A child care union, how cool!” Today I question the integrity of my Democratic Party. I was taught that Republicans were only interested in corporate greed and didn’t care about those of us in the middle class, yet that is what I am and what I’m hearing from my DFL — only in this case substitute the word “union” for “corporation.”

At last, a real Northland winter (in March!)
Just walk down the sidewalk (if it's been cleared, ahem) and see for yourself -- there's lots of snow in Carlton County and temperatures are mostly below freezing, so seize the moment, folks. Last year at this time, temperatures were above 60 degrees.

In Our Own Backyard…Warm weather is a world away
We awoke to the sound of doves cooing conversationally outside our window. The soft “whup, whup, whup” of the ceiling fan stirred the thin percale sheet that lay over us. And as I slid out of bed and into my sandals, I could already sense the heat of the day. By evening, we were stuck in the driveway....
