Cloquet detectives served a warrant last week that effectively shut down a small counterfeiting operation, Cloquet Police Chief Wade Lamirande wrote in his report to city officials last week. Lamirande also noted the police estimate $5,000 in counterfeit bills have been reported by local merchants and as far away as the Twin Cities.

Glen 'Pat' Smith
Glen "Pat" Smith, 67, of Nisswa, Minn., died at his home Friday, Dec. 21, 2012. Pat was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Graceville, Minn., the son of Francis and Margaret (Clark) Smith. Following his graduation from Benson High School, Pat attended the University of Minnesota Morris. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 1, 1968, he was united in marriage to Alice Hennen. The couple lived in Benson and Cloquet, Minn., before making their home the Brainerd Lakes Area in 1987 when they purchased Martinson Insurance Agency, which they renamed Brainerd Insurance Agency. Pat cared about his clients and his community - he was active in Rotary, Cub Scouts and St. Christopher's Catholic Church. Pat was also a past board member of the Initiative Foundation, Minnesota Independent Agents Association, Northland Arboretum, and Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corporation.
