Kathryn Rachel (Milberger) Wilton, 65, of Brookston, Minn., passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, at Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet, Minn. She was born Jan. 1, 1948, in Cloquet to Walter and Betty (Madden) Milberger and was united in marriage to Donald Wilton on June 17, 1967. She and Don owned and operated the Brookston Garbage Service for many years.

Dorothy Marie Marana
Dorothy Marie Marana, 92, of Wrenshall, Minn., passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. She was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Mason City, Iowa, to Emma (Honken) and Earl Braddock. Dorothy worked at John Deere Tractor as an inventory clerk and then held positions at the Carlton County Courthouse for 24 years as probate registrar and chief deputy clerk for Probate Court, retiring in 1986. Dorothy was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wrenshall, serving in several positions as Ladies Aide, Vice President, secretary, treasurer, church council, coordinator for Thrivent Insurance for St. John's Church, the Wrenshall planning commission, and V.F.W. Carlton Post Women's Auxiliary.

Shirley Marie Defoe, “Giizhigookwe,” 69, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 12:35 p.m. with her son at her side. Although her passing was unexpected, she went peacefully and without pain. Shirley worked at Conwed, UMD School of Medicine, Bemidji State College as Director for Native Americans in Medicine, and retired from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in 2007. She also served on the Cloquet School Board.

Semi-pro football begins ‘Stampede’
Dewey Dupuis Jr. hasn’t played a game of organized football for more than two years, but the 19-year-old hasn’t lost his touch. “It’s my favorite sport,” said Dupuis, a 2011 graduate of Fond du Lac Ojibwe School and now starting free safety for the inaugural Carlton County Stampede semi-professional football team this summer.
