Robert 'Bob' Morrison
Robert "Bob" Morrison, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Viewcrest Nursing Home in Duluth, Minn. He was born in Duluth on April 23, 1926, to Winifred (Leonard) and Henry Morrison. Robert graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth for two years. Robert was united in marriage to Shirley Tester on June 10, 1948, and was employed by Potlatch Corporation in Cloquet, Minn., for 33½ years, retiring in 1986. Robert was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club, AA, and an active volunteer in the American Red Cross disaster service. He served on many natural disasters, including the World Trade Center terrorist attack.

Beatrice Margaret (Hoeschen) Pryatel
Beatrice M. Pryatel, 92, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague, Minn. She was born May 15, 1921, in Albany, Minn., and grew up in Freeport, Minn. Her parents were Margaret (Fabeck) and John Herman Leo Hoeschen. Beatrice was the third of seven children in the family: six girls and one boy - Evelyn, Helen, Beatrice, Jeanette, Leo, Joan and Viola. Beatrice graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Freeport. She was an excellent student, sang solos, took part in plays and participated in a harmonica band.

Dorothy Marie Marana, 92, of Wrenshall, Minn., passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. She was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Mason City, Iowa, to Emma (Honken) and Earl Braddock. Dorothy worked at John Deere Tractor as an inventory clerk and then held positions at the Carlton County Courthouse for 24 years as probate registrar and chief deputy clerk for Probate Court, retiring in 1986. Dorothy was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wrenshall, serving in several positions as Ladies Aide, Vice President, secretary, treasurer, church council, coordinator for Thrivent Insurance for St. John's Church, the Wrenshall planning commission, and V.F.W. Carlton Post Women's Auxiliary.

Shirley Marie Defoe, “Giizhigookwe,” 69, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 12:35 p.m. with her son at her side. Although her passing was unexpected, she went peacefully and without pain. Shirley worked at Conwed, UMD School of Medicine, Bemidji State College as Director for Native Americans in Medicine, and retired from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in 2007. She also served on the Cloquet School Board.

Richard Joseph Prevost
Richard "Dick" Joseph Prevost, 71, of Kettle River, Minn., passed away April 23, 2013, with his family by his side, after losing his 12-year battle to prostate cancer. Dick was born to Richard Joseph and Evelyn (Ward) Prevost Sr. on April 10, 1942, in Cloquet, Minn. He was a 1960 graduate of Cloquet High School and a longtime employee of Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Company in Duluth, Minn. He also worked for and retired from Edina Realty. Dick was an avid reader, painter, Catholic Church choir member, "garage saler" and gardener. He loved to hunt, fish, tell jokes and stories. "How big did you say those deer and fish were?" Though he had all girls, everything he was passionate about has been passed down through the generations.
