Robert 'Bob' Morrison
Robert "Bob" Morrison, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Viewcrest Nursing Home in Duluth, Minn. He was born in Duluth on April 23, 1926, to Winifred (Leonard) and Henry Morrison. Robert graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth for two years. Robert was united in marriage to Shirley Tester on June 10, 1948, and was employed by Potlatch Corporation in Cloquet, Minn., for 33½ years, retiring in 1986. Robert was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club, AA, and an active volunteer in the American Red Cross disaster service. He served on many natural disasters, including the World Trade Center terrorist attack.

Among Jack's many medals received, he was most proud of being a Bronze Star recipient. He was united in marriage to Betty Johnson on March 30, 1946, and they made their home in Cloquet. John and Betty established and operated the Cloquet Greenhouse for approximately 35 years. He was especially proud of being the first FTD florist in the area. He was a big game hunter and enjoyed life at his cabin on Pequaywan Lake. John was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979 in Cloquet.

Beatrice M. Pryatel, 92, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague, Minn. She was born May 15, 1921, in Albany, Minn., and grew up in Freeport, Minn. Shirley Marie Defoe, “Giizhigookwe,” 69, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 12:35 p.m. with her son at her side. Although her passing was unexpected, she went peacefully and without pain. Shirley worked at Conwed, UMD School of Medicine, Bemidji State College as Director for Native Americans in Medicine, and retired from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in 2007. She also served on the Cloquet School Board.

Bertha Henrietta Hay
Bertha Henrietta Hay, 92, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2013, at the Lighthouse in Cloquet, Minn., where she was living. She was born to John J. and Johannah E. (Van Hout) Tillman on July 21, 1920, in Milbank, S.D., where she grew up. Bertha married Sherman C. Hay on Sept. 21, 1940, in St. Paul, Minn., where they lived for a short time. They returned to Big Stone City, S.D., where they farmed for many years, and were members of the St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church. From 1975 to 1986 they were custodians at the Big Stone City School, where they "grand-parented" many children. In 1993 they moved to Cloquet, where they were members of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Cody graduated from Esko High School in 2010 where he was an accomplished athlete and participated in track, golf and football. Harold "Harry" Bassett, 63, of Elk River, Minn., passed into eternal life, with our Lord and Savior on Feb. 22, 2013, at home with his loving family at his side. Harry had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March of 2011, and fought a valiant battle to the very end. Harry was born on June 20, 1949, to Arnold and Carolyn Bassett in Cloquet, Minn., and was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Cloquet High School, and very proudly with the "Class of 1967."

Winifred M. Sarette, 100, formerly of Cloquet, Minn., died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at her home at St. Ann's Residence in Duluth, Minn. She was born Dec. 23, 1912, in London, England. She served in the British Women's Royal Air Force during World War II. During the war she met and married William (Buck) Sarette of Cloquet, and immigrated to the United States in 1946. Winifred was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, Legion of Mary, National Council of Catholic Women, Duplicate Bridge Club, and was a church lector for many years. She worked as an Avon representative earning numerous sales awards, and served on the resident's council at St. Ann's. Winifred believed that life is a gift from God, and that we should use that gift to help others. She made a practice of being thankful, and she finished her life believing that not one bad thing had ever happened to her in all her hundred years.
