Flood grants available for appliances, building materials
Jill Hatfield, executive directior of Volunteer Services of Carlton County, wants people to know there is at least one easy option available to flood victims: apply for up to a $500 grant from the Flood Relief Fund to be used toward appliances or building materials (or for reimbursement for such items, with a receipt).

According to Esko Fire Chief Jeff Juntunen, someone reported smoke in the area at 2:01 a.m. Thursday, but by the time Carlton County deputies found the source of the smoke, the house at 110 Rio Drive had burned “right to the slab.” Fortunately, there were no injuries or loss of life.

Carlton County flood relief center opens, volunteers and donations needed
A central flood assistance and volunteer center has opened at the Armory in Cloquet for both volunteers, donors and those in need of assistance. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A call center is also open, the number is 218-384-1112.
