Donald Morton Erickson
Donald M. Erickson, 75, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Cloquet to John E. and Inga H. (Jokela) Erickson. Donald served his country in the United States Navy as a radioman. He was united in marriage to MaryAnn Novacinski on March 28, 1959, in Carlton, Minn. Donald retired from Potlatch Corporation as a pipefitter and was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club and the Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979 of Cloquet. He enjoyed gardening and baking (especially his breads and rolls), and was a great husband, fabulous dad and wonderful grandfather.

Hugh Erwin Fairbairn
Hugh E. Fairbairn, 96, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and formerly of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. He was born May 16, 1916, in Jeffers, Minn., to Leonard and Lucille (Hosmer) Fairbairn. After his mother died when he was 2, Hugh and his brother, Bryce, were raised in Jeffers by an extended family of his father, aunts Mabel and Helen and uncle Dave. The extended family briefly relocated to Corning, Calif., in 1928 before returning to the family homestead in 1932.

CEC skis into postseason form
Alex DeRocher skied to a seventh-place overall finish at Tuesday’s Section 7 Alpine ski meet in Biwabik, Minn.Esko sophomore teammate Sarah Severson also clinched a state meet berth by placing seventh overall at 1:28.78. Meanwhile, the CEC Nordic girls ski team defended its Lake Superior Conference championship Saturday at Pincushion Trail in Grand Marais, finishing 1-2-3.
