Some choose to spend Halloween night pretending to be a stuffed dummy, only to rise up and startle unsuspecting fairies, witches, zombies and superheroes (and their parents). Others choose to put on gorilla costumes and lurk in the bushes. The vast majority, it must be said, prefer to go door-to-door, asking friends and complete strangers alike for candy by uttering the simple phrase “Trick-or-Treat.” Those three words truly are the essence of Halloween in the United States, and everyone is free to choose his or her favorite option ...
