Resource Management and Tribal Court Building (more photos)

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa celebrated the grand opening of a new, soon-to-be-LEEDS-certified building for its tribal court and Natural Resources departments. Photos by Jana Peterson/Pine Journal.

The view out the large bank of windows in the new building shows the roof garden and trellises, as along with several other government buildings in the same area.

  • Environmental specialist Bruno Zagar shows John Carmody for the University of Minnesota (who assisted with the planning stages of the building project) the rain garden in back of the building. The garden will act as a retention pond for the building.
  • Mike Murray, construction projects manager for the Fond du Lac Development Corporation, celebrates a happy ending (on time and under budget) with lead architect Tari Rayala of SJA Architects.
  • Mike Murray explains that the table in the center of the biology lab is a necropsy table. The back door to the room is also extra big, so natural resource workers can bring in large animals when necessary.
  • Outside each room in the building is a placard with both English and Ojibwe words to identify what lies within. The translation for the Ojibwe words pictured is "cleaning up." Naawakwe-giizis helped write out all the Ojibwe names.
