Mardelle Margaret Proulx, 89, of Cloquet, Minn., died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. She was born June 18, 1924, in Cloquet to Edward and Alice LeMay.
Mardelle graduated from Cloquet High School in 1942 and attended the College of St. Scholastica. She worked at Northwest Paper Company in the general office until her marriage to Louis Proulx on Oct. 10, 1946. Mardelle and Louis raised nine children. In 1967 she went to work at Northwest Paper Credit Union until she retired in 1987 as manager. She remained on the Board of Directors of the credit union for several years.
Mardelle was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, its St. Francis Circle, and the National Catholic Society of Foresters since 1942, where she also held many offices.
Mardelle's greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Mardelle was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; two sons, Paul and David; and two brothers, Duane and Lester LeMay.
She is survived by seven children, Julie (Donald) Johnson of Mahtowa, Minn., Rita (Mick) Maslowski of Gladstone, Mich., Margi Proulx of Cloquet, Barb (Mark) Brown of Carlton, Minn., Mary (Don) Hoyt of Duluth, Minn., Don (Elisa) Proulx of Culver, Minn., and Teri Proulx of Cloquet; daughter-in-law, Davie Proulx of Cloquet; two brothers, Father Donald LeMay of Collegeville, Minn., and Edward LeMay of Boston, Mass; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, from 4-7 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Visitation will continue Monday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the church social hall.
