Clayton D. Berg, 86, a resident of Carlton, Minn., formerly of Duluth, Minn., passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton.
He was born in Duluth on April 29, 1927, to Oscar and Olga (Lien) Berg. Clayton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the Destroyer, U.S.S. David Taylor. He was a teamster having spent his career as a semi-driver for Gamble Robinson and Century Motor Freight. He was awarded a two million mile safe driving record. Clayton's greatest milestone was accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He taught Sunday school at Bethel Mission in Duluth, drove the church bus and was a counselor at Bethel Church Camp near Grantsburg, Wis.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret M. Berg; siblings, Maurice Berg and Dona Delaware; and children Arthur J. Berg and Carol A. Oling.
Clayton leaves surviving daughters, Patricia Frykman of Duluth and Linda (Donald) McDonald of Arlington, Texas; sons, Roger Berg of Superior, Wis., and Dennis (Vickie) Berg of Carlton; grandchildren, Ardyce Albison, William Berg; Dale, Gary, Sandee and Scott Beck; Terry Larsen, Joe Finch and Stephanie Berg; Michael, Amanda, Raymond and Timothy Berg; and Dillon, Kelley and Dustin McDonald; god-daughter, Cassie Thatcher; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Clayton's love of his Lord, his smiles and infectious laugh will be missed.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet. Military honors will be presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard, followed by a luncheon in the fellowship room. Inurnment services will be at Oneota Cemetery.
