Violet “Patsy” Korpi, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in Chaska, Minn. “Patsy” was her lifelong nickname.
Patsy Korpi was born Violet Marie Stifter on Dec. 12, 1927, in Manor, Penn. She was one of five daughters born to Peter and Marie (Veber) Stifter. Patsy attended elementary school in Millville, N.J., before the family moved to Minnesota in the 1930s. She graduated from Brookston High School in 1945. In 1946, she married Martin Korpi. Patsy and Martin were married for 52 years before Martin passed away in 1998. Patsy was a homemaker many years before starting work in food service at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, Minn.
Patsy found the elements of a happy life at their Twin Lakes cabin. There she would bake raised doughnuts, exceptional caramel rolls, and hand-picked blueberry pies; grow flowers; sun; swim; and entertain for over 30 years. Occasionally she took a break for a round of golf and a hamburger at the Big Lake Golf Course.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Roy, Esther King and Shirley Hurd.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (David) Newman; daughter-in-law, Janet Korpi; sons, Dale (Lorie) and Bruce (Hope Bjelland); grandchildren, Chuck Korpi, Alissa Korpi, Hunter Korpi and Sarah (David) Swartz; great-grandchildren, Tommy and Zoe Swartz; her sister, Gladys Briant of Lancaster, Calif.; and numerous of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Visitation will resume Friday, Aug. 2, from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service, also in the funeral home. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial will be in Perch Lake Cemetery.
