Gerald 'Jerry' Lee Nelson

Gerald "Jerry" Lee Nelson, 66, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 13, 1946, to Edwin and Eva (Curtis) Nelson. Jerry worked as a truck driver for Brenny-Dahl Block Company and Ready Mix in Duluth for many years. He loved playing bingo at the Black Bear Casino, water skiing in his younger years, hunting and fishing, living at Chub Lake in Carlton since 1994, and especially spending time with family and grandkids.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Michael Nelson.

He is survived by three children, Susan (Dale) Thrun of Hermantown, Minn., Christopher (Kara) Nelson of Maple Grove, Minn., and Jeremy (Amanda) Nelson of Cloquet; four grandchildren, Andrew, Ava, Alexis and Aiden Nelson; two brothers, Curtis (Kathy) Nelson and Barry (Rhonda Erickson) Nelson, both of Cloquet; one sister, Linda (Jim) Boyd of Cloquet; one sister-in-law, Barbara Nelson of Cloquet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff at Home Instead Senior Care and especially the wonderful care given by his hospice nurse, Stephanie Marshall "The Boss."

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, from 5-7 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, and Friday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.
