Barbara Ann Berthiaume, 58, of Scanlon, Minn., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minn.
Barbara Ann Berthiaume, 58, of Scanlon, Minn., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minn. She was born Nov. 3, 1953, in Duluth to John and Dorothy Barnes. Barb grew up in Scanlon and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1972. She lived in the Twin Cities for a few years and also in Morgan Park. On Sept. 9, 1988, she married Michael Berthiaume and they made their home in Scanlon for the past 24 years. She attended Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute and Lake Superior College.
Barbara worked at Pamida in Cloquet, Wear-A-Knit, and AmericInn. She cooked at the Junction Oasis, Big Lake Golf Course, and worked in the deli at Super One. She also worked at FDL Technologies and for the past 20 years has been a school bus driver through Cloquet Transit.
Barbara was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She loved cooking, baking, spending time with her grandchildren, growing flowers and taking morning walks.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Barnes.
Barbara will be missed by everyone who came to know her, especially her husband, Michael; father, John Barnes of Scanlon; son, James Kohn of Duluth; daughter, Heather (George Wilton) Mattson of Cloquet; step-daughters, Michelle (Jesse) Struthers of Mounds View, Minn., and Melanie (Larry) Nelson of Hill City, Minn.; step-sons, Dennis (Naomi) Berthiaume of Cloquet and Gerald (Heather) Berthiaume of Mound, Minn.; brothers, Mark (Carolyn Burke) Barnes of Barnum, Minn., and David (Terry) Barnes of Esko, Minn.; sisters, Susan Jones of Duluth and Carol (David) Tribby of Carlton, Minn.; grandchildren, Tony Wilton, Brendan Mattson, Bret Wilton, Kayla Mattson, Bailey Mattson, Tyler Wilton, Kimberly and Katherine Struthers, Olivia and Randall Berthiaume, Jasmine Vignere, and Jaydelyn Berthiaume.
She was a gentle, kind and beautiful lady. May she rest in peace with the Lord.
The family would like to thank University Hospital Fairview in Minneapolis, the Richard M. Schulze Family American Cancer Society Hop Lodge in Minneapolis, St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, Essentia Health Oncology, Infusion Center, 3 East Cancer Care Unit, ICU and surgical departments, and Solvay Hospice House for their loving and compassionate care of Barb.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 102 Fourth St., Cloquet. Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet. Lunch will follow in the fellowship hall of the church.
