Robert H. Hermanson, 86, died peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn., on Sunday April 29, 2012, after a brief illness.

Robert H. Hermanson, 86, died peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn., on Sunday April 29, 2012, after a brief illness. He was born in Duluth on Aug. 15, 1925, to Eno and Alli Hermanson. His family moved to Minneapolis, Minn., when he was a boy. Following graduation from North High School in 1943, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and received his honorable discharge in August 1946. Robert attended the University of Minnesota. On Sept. 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mary Jayne Seamans.

Robert's teaching career began in Stillwater, Minn., at Stillwater Junior High. In 1955 he began teaching at Marshall High School in Minneapolis. His teaching career continued at West High School in Minneapolis where he served as a job coordinator until his retirement. Robert and Mary Jayne resided in Brooklyn Center, Minn., for the next 54 years. In 2009 they moved to Cloquet, Minn., to live with their daughter and son-in-law. He was a resident of Westwood Assisted Living Apartments at the time of his illness.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; son, Brett Hermanson; and sister, Ruth Hermanson.

Left to mourn are his daughter, the Rev. Linda (Rev. Loren) Schumacher of Cloquet; sons, Robb (Lucy) Hermanson of Duluth and Kevin Hermanson of Minneapolis; grandkids, Laura, Erick (Mary), Amanda and Matt; great-grandkids, Holly and Jack; and good friend, Ernie Zimmerman.

Robert loved gardening and was an avid reader. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Services will be held Sunday, May 20, at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, with a 1 p.m. visitation until the 2 p.m. memorial service. Military honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Refreshments will follow in the Fellowship Room.
