Thomas Richard Dodd, 87, of Cloquet, Minn., formerly of Duluth, Minn., passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. He was born June 2, 1924, in Duluth to Thomas J. and Stella (Houle) Dodd. Tom was a 1942 graduate of Duluth Central High School. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran who served in England and Belgium as an electrician. He graduated in 1951 from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Tom married Joyce N. Angell in 1952. Tom was employed at Fitgers Brewing Company from 1948-1951. He then went to work for the DM&IR as a cost accountant, retiring in 1982 after 32 years of service. Following his retirement, Tom and Joyce wintered at their home in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Tom was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was involved in the community and enjoyed coaching for the Lake Park Little League. Tom was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Lester Park American Legion, Lester Park Golf Course and Deep Creek Golf Club in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Corrine Moroni; and his wife of 59 years, Joyce, on May 14, 2011.
Tom is survived by his four children, Kathryn A. (Glen) Rippel of Mystic, Conn., Richard T. (Karen) Dodd of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gerald S. (Nancy) Dodd of Duluth, and Patricia L. (Joel) Newby of Mahtomedi, Minn.; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Jennifer Rippel, Bryan and Eric Dodd, Michael, Matthew and Jack Dodd, and Daniel and Kelly Ekeroth; his great-grandson, Jackson Marshall; and his brother, Robert (Lorraine) Dodd of Colorado Springs, Colo.
His family would like to thank the staff at Diamond Willow of Cloquet for the excellent care he received while living there. They would also like to thank the staff at Community Memorial Hospital and Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet.
A family service will be held Friday, May 11, with visitation at 11:30 a.m. followed by a noon funeral service in Ft. Snelling Memorial Chapel, Historic Ft. Snelling. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a charity of one's choice.
