Christopher Douglas Campbell, 52, of Cloquet, Minn., joined his son Jeremy on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, after a courageous 15-month battle with small cell lung cancer. He was born May 3, 1959, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Robert and Mona (Ferrell) Campbell. Chris was a 1977 graduate of Central High School in Duluth, Minn., and also graduated from Bemidji State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology. He was united in marriage to Corinne Little on Sept. 13, 1986, in Duluth. Chris and Corinne moved to Cloquet in 1990 where he became a farmer, a passion he enjoyed. He worked for the Duluth Police Department for 24 years and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. He also served as a Brevator Township supervisor and was a member of the Brevator Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was an Eagle Scout and had served as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 171. Chris took many scouts to the Boundary Waters on canoe trips, Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico, and the National Jamboree. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, and especially enjoyed bow hunting the last 10 years. Chris and his family took many camping trips out west to numerous national parks.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Mona; his son, Jeremy; maternal grandparents, Douglas and Mary Ferrell; and paternal grandparents, Leo and Josephine Campbell.

He is survived by his wife, Corinne; daughter, Amy; father, Robert Campbell of Britt, Minn.; brother, Neil (Stacey) Campbell of Livingston, Wis.; two sisters, Wendy (Dan) Gustafson of Rochester, Minn., and Mary Jo (Michael "Jake") Jaques of Henderson, Nev.; his best friend "like a brother" Carey (Melinda) Ferrell; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, followed by a time of sharing and memories at 8 p.m. The visitation will resume Saturday, March 24, from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet, followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship in the church social hall. Interment service will be at the Simian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cloquet Boy Scout Troop 171.
