Barbara Jean Grochow

Barbara Jean Grochow of Cloquet, Minn., formerly of Warren, Minn., went home to the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer, at Sunnyside Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born June 13, 1937, to Oscar and Esther (Aanenson) Rokke of Newfolden, Minn. Barbara was united in marriage to Leo Grochow from Argyle, Minn., on Feb. 25, 1954. They became the parents of four children and made their home in Warren. Barbara was very active in her church, volunteered as Brownie, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leaders and was active with the American Legion Auxiliary. After 24 years, they moved to the Cloquet area. Barbara worked as a home health aide, which led her to return to school to become an LPN. She worked at the Cloquet nursing home as charge nurse until she was diagnosed with cancer. Barbara was also active in her church, Legion and VFW.

Having family and friends visit was one of her greatest joys. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her husband, Leo; daughters, Linda (Ronnie) LaBine of Warren, Judy (Allan) LaBine of Stillwater, Minn., and Jacqueline (Michael) Przybylski of Cottage Grove, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Tina Grochow of Fargo, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Evangeline Teigen of Oslo, Bonnie (Gilmen) Tinnes of Brainerd, Minn., and Carol (Robert) Boothby of Eden Prairie, Minn.; brothers, Orvald (Gloria) Rokke of Newfolden, and Kermit (Carole) Rokke of Plymouth, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brian Grochow; and one brother, Dale Rokke.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 16, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko, followed by a luncheon in the Family Life Center.
