Wayne Elmer Wolter, 65, of Ava, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. He was born Aug. 4, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Elmer Herman and Norma Mary (Schmidt) Wolter. Wayne spent a large portion of his adult life living in Cloquet, Minn., on a small hobby farm northwest of town. The experience of being close to the land was important for him and his family. In 2001 he moved to Ava to a farmstead that was over 100 years old. Raising animals brought him great joy over the years. Anyone who knew Wayne would call him a colorful character. He was a true Renaissance man. He was an accomplished glacier and tradesman for more than 40 years. Through the course of his life Wayne was also an entrepreneur, restaurateur, stained-glass artisan, passionate hobby farmer, National-level umpire, auctioneer, gardener, builder, grill master, truth-seeker, and a live-out-of-the-box kind of man. He was also known to sing a fabulous karaoke on occasion.
Wayne is loved and missed by his significant other, Elizabeth St. Germain; his two children, daughter Dayna Jean Wolter of St Paul, Minn., and son Jason (Tara) Wolter of Cloquet; his grandchildren, Jayda and Ty Wolter of Cloquet; and Elizabeth's children, Chris St. Germain of Cloquet and Jeremy St. Germain of Shakopee, Minn.
Wayne was the oldest of six children and has five siblings: Carol Rauwolf of Mansfield, Mo., Randy Wolter of St Cloud, Minn., Rick Wolter of Cloquet, Larry Wolter of Barnes, Wis., and Dan Wolter of Superior, Wis. They will miss him. He was also uncle to a loving brood of nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home in Springfield, Mo. Inurnment will be a private memorial ceremony in the late spring/early summer near Barnes, Wis.
