Roberta L. Pelofske
Roberta L. Pelofske, 74, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn., after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Roberta L. Pelofske, 74, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn., after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Cloquet to William J. and Evelyn (Gurno) Smith and graduated from Cloquet High School. Roberta had worked for Conwed Corporation, the Fond du Lac Indian Hospital, Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet as a nursing assistant for over 30 years, and also as a receptionist for the Fond du Lac Reservation. Roberta was a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, an active member of the Moose Club Auxiliary, and played on numerous bowling and pool teams. She loved paying cards, bingo, cribbage and traveling with her companion, Leonard Rosenthal, to go antique shopping. Roberta was always happy and had a big smile. She loved her family and everyone she met.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Sherman and William Smith; her companion, Leonard Rosenthal; and one great-granddaughter, Asiniiwikwezens Jillie Fairbanks-Barney.
She is survived by two daughters, Renee (David) Dormanen and Robin (Tim) Diver, both of Cloquet, and their father, Robert Pelofske of Cloquet; nine grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Brook Barney, Joshua Barney, Ashley Barney, Jacob Barney, Jordan Diver, Stuart Diver, Christina Diver and Dominic Diver; three great-grandchildren, Jayden Johnson, Aiyanna Lussier and MaKiiy Diver; two sisters, Beverly Gitzen and Mary Koski, both of Cloquet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet. The visitation will resume Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service, also at Nelson Funeral Care. Interment services will be at New Holy Family Cemetery. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at the Cloquet Moose Club.
