Richard Gerald “Jerry” Biebl, 79, of Barnum, Minn., died Monday, August 9, 2010, in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital.

Richard Gerald "Jerry" Biebl, 79, of Barnum, Minn., died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, in Community Memorial Hospital of Cloquet, Minn. He was born in 1930 in Barnum to Martin V. and Mary E. Biebl. He attended Barnum schools and was a 1948 graduate of Barnum High School. Following high school, Jerry attended the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois and became a journeyman machinist. Jerry married Patricia Henderson on Sept. 20, 1952, in Reno, Nev.

Jerry was a Korean War Vet, serving in the Air Force stateside. He was active in Peterson-Westerberg American Legion Post 415, Barnum.

He worked various places including Aerojet General and Lockheed Missiles and Space in California and at Diamond Brands in Cloquet for 24 years. Jerry continued the family tradition of farming the land purchased by his grandfather, Leopold, in 1900. In his retirement, Jerry restored antique farm tractors and participated in antique tractor shows. He also purchased a Harmonette street organ from England that he enjoyed playing at various community affairs and parades. Jerry was very active in square dancing and helped form the Country Travelers of Cloquet. He volunteered at the Carlton County Fair as a shuttle driver and as superintendent of the tractor building.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Biebl, and his parents.

Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Patricia of Barnum; four children, Barbara (Gary) Peterson of Austin, Minn., Roger (Cindy) Biebl of Barnum, Jane (Tim) Nelson of Roseville, Minn., and Randy (Shirley) Biebl of North Branch, Minn.; two brothers, Kenny (Lillian) Biebl of Esko, Minn., and Glenn (JoAnn) Biebl of Ely, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from noon until the 2 p.m. memorial service Saturday, Aug. 14, in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. A luncheon will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Per Jerry’s request, everyone attending the funeral is asked to wear bright colored clothing. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Barnum.

Memorials are preferred.
